Focusing on Women’s Health

It is estimated that possibly 25 million women in the United States struggle with the physical, social, emotional and behavioral components of incontinence and pelvic dysfunctions. Despite the alarming number affected, this population is often overlooked, primarily as a result of the sensitivity and social implications of such discussions.

Historically, physical therapists have effectively treated injuries and dysfunctions of various muscles and joints of the body. These same methods can be applied to correct the dysfunctions of the pelvic floor. These dysfunctions and related disorders are multifactorial, often complex, and need a multidisciplinary approach to evaluations, treatment, and management to ensure success.

Physical therapy can often bring about a dramatic improvement with many conditions that affect women in particular, conditions such as:

  • Urinary and Bowel Incontinence
  • Pelvic Floor Pain and Dysfunction
  • Dizziness (vertigo)
  • Lymphedema
  • Musculoskeletal Pain During Pregnancy
  • Post-menopausal and Menopausal Conditions
  • Osteoporosis
  • Post-mastectomy/Breast Reconstruction Care
